1. Greetings and introducing yourself
In a normal German sentence, the verb comes in the second part: Ich heiße Alex. This does not always mean the second word. Use du with friends and Sie politely with adults you do not know. Start nouns with a capital letter.
2. Pronouns and present-tense verbs
For most regular verbs, remove -en and add the ending for the person: ich -e, du -st, er/sie/es -t, wir -en, ihr -t, sie/Sie -en. Some verbs need an extra e: du arbeitest. Ich arbeite can mean both I work and I am working.
3. Questions and numbers
For a yes/no question, start with the verb: Wohnen Sie hier? For other questions, start with a question word: Wo wohnen Sie? In numbers like 21, say the ones before the tens: einundzwanzig. Read phone numbers one digit at a time.
ہاں یا نہیں والے سوال میں پہلے فعل لائیں: Wohnen Sie hier? دوسرے سوالوں میں سوالیہ لفظ پہلے آتا ہے: Wo wohnen Sie? اکیس جیسے نمبروں میں اکائی پہلے بولیں: einundzwanzig۔ فون نمبر کے ہندسے ایک ایک کر کے بولیں۔
4. Articles, gender and plurals
Learn each noun with der, die or das and its plural. For example: der Termin, die Termine. You cannot always guess the article from the meaning. Ein and eine mean a/an; they have no plural form. Plural nouns use die when you mean the.
ہر اسم کے ساتھ der، die یا das اور اس کی جمع یاد کریں، جیسے der Termin، die Termine۔ صرف مطلب دیکھ کر درست آرٹیکل کا اندازہ ہمیشہ نہیں ہوتا۔ Ein اور eine کا مطلب ایک ہے اور ان کی جمع نہیں ہوتی۔ جمع کے ساتھ the کے مطلب میں die آتا ہے۔
5. Accusative and buying food
The thing you buy, have or need often uses the accusative form. Der becomes den and ein becomes einen for masculine nouns. Other article forms stay the same here. Use Ich möchte ... to ask politely for something.
جو چیز آپ خریدتے ہیں، رکھتے ہیں یا چاہتے ہیں، اس کے ساتھ اکثر accusative والی شکل آتی ہے۔ مذکر اسم کے ساتھ der کی جگہ den اور ein کی جگہ einen آتا ہے۔ یہاں باقی آرٹیکل وہی رہتے ہیں۔ ادب سے کچھ مانگنے کے لیے Ich möchte ... کہیں۔
6. Negation and family
Use kein with a noun that would have ein or no article: Ich habe kein Auto. Use nicht to say an action or description is not true: Das ist nicht teuer. Learn where nicht goes from each example; it is not always the last word.
جس اسم کے ساتھ ein آتا ہو یا کوئی آرٹیکل نہ ہو، اس کے ساتھ نفی کے لیے kein لگائیں: Ich habe kein Auto۔ کسی کام یا وصف کی نفی کے لیے nicht کہیں: Das ist nicht teuer۔ مثال سے سیکھیں کہ nicht کہاں آتا ہے؛ یہ ہمیشہ آخر میں نہیں ہوتا۔
7. Time and separable verbs
Some verbs split into two parts: Ich stehe um sieben auf. The small first part, auf, moves to the end. With a verb such as müssen, keep aufstehen together. Use um for a clock time and am for a day. Halb acht means 7:30.
کچھ فعل دو حصوں میں بٹ جاتے ہیں: Ich stehe um sieben auf۔ شروع کا چھوٹا حصہ auf آخر میں آتا ہے۔ müssen جیسے فعل کے ساتھ aufstehen کو اکٹھا رکھیں۔ وقت کے لیے um اور دن کے لیے am کہیں۔ Halb acht کا مطلب ساڑھے سات ہے۔
